After a quiet Holiday sojourn, work on our remaining school projects is back in full swing. With all Students Rebuild schools poised to wrap up in 2012, we've seen a healthy amount of progress over the last month. Here's the latest:
École Elie Dubois - Structural engineers and other consultants have been on site to see the progress made on site excavation and to inspect the rebar-filled trenches, which will support the foundation for the cafeteria. We're also excited to note that VivaRio's biodigester dome has been completely sealed.

Field staff inspect steel cages lining the foundation trench.
Having been sealed, the VivaRio biodigester is close to completion.
Collège Mixte Le Bon Berger, Montrouis - While Montrouis community members have already toasted to the future of the school, a few final touches are being placed on the building, including a rain gutter system, a balustrade for the second level, and support elements for a sun shading system. As the design team prepares to close out the project, they've also been addressing minor construction issues, like an improperly welded roof truss. Architectural photographers were also recently on site to document the project for a design publication!

Seen below the ventillation and sun screen is the newly welded clerestory louvre.
The design team recently identified this improperly welded truss and has established a repair strategy.

École Baptiste Bon Berger, Pele - For now, it seems like the workers at Pele have won their dramatic battle against water. (From our last update, you might recall how the site's unique position near sea level makes it difficult to excavate and pour a foundation without groundwater quickly invading.) Workers are back on site and putting the final touches on the retaining wall, which serves not only to secure the site, but to also stabalize the walls of neighboring structures.
Workers flood the site on a busy work day (no pun intended!).
A closer look at the many layers of earth excavated on site and a water-free work area -- for now!
Wide view of the site from the Northeast corner. Again notice the perimeter wall at the right and left sides of the photo...it's just missing the continuous concrete cap on top!
View of the perimeter wall under construction. The wood scaffolding provides temporary support while the team wraps up work on the remainder of the wall.
Institut Foyer du Savoir - Construction carries on in the New Year! Work continues on the foundation as workers lay concerete and stack foundation blocks. Meanwhile, design staff and field workers alike undergo masonry training as construction advances!
Pouring concree into steel casing for the foundation.
Foundatin blocks being laid in place; soon, they'll be filled with reinforcing grout.
Structural engineer Rick Elhert conducts masonry training in the office and on site for the staff.
